Barn wedding venues are the quintessential choice for rustic, country style weddings. A wedding in a Barn is perfect for a relaxed wedding which you can stamp your personality to. We have lots of stunning Barn wedding venues in the Hampshire and West Sussex area, set in pretty villages and amongst cornfields and downland.
I’ve photographed lots of lovely Barn weddings in the South, and wanted to share a few photos, tips and ideas if you are considering getting married in a Barn. You might think a barn seems a little rough and simple for a wedding, but most Barn wedding venues are beautiful buildings with high beamed ceilings, lit with fairy lights and chandeliers, and set in beautiful gardens looking out on fields and woodlands. The Tithe Barn in Petersfield has a high vaulted ceiling to rival most churches, while the gardens at Bury Court Barns are charmingly landscaped like any Country manor. I love photographing barn weddings, when you can have relaxed photos in a golden cornfield, or looking out across hills and pastures.
The uncomplicated decor of a wedding barn allows you to stamp your own style on your wedding, and barn wedding venues can be be gorgeously decorated with flowers, bunting, pom poms, lights, garlands and personal touches. Unlike a hotel, you will not have to share your venue with other guests, and you can often choose your own caterers or menus so you really have the wedding how you want, whether it be a relaxed hog roast or elegant 7 course dinner.
Most Barn wedding venues are licensed for civil ceremonies, so you can get married and hold your wedding reception all in one easy place with no bother moving guests from one place to other. Of course Wedding Barns are also perfect for wedding receptions if you are getting married in a pretty country church nearby. Some venues, such as Upwaltham Barns, Southend Barns and Rivervale Barns have separate buildings for your ceremony and reception, and many even have break out areas such as bars, quiet rooms and covered courtyards ideal for grandparents to escape the music, or kids to play. Some venues even have accommodation on site, with cosy cottages or bed and breakfast rooms for Bridal preparations and the first night of your honeymoon. Barn weddings allow you to have an outdoorsy wedding with the confidence you have a warm, dry and atmospheric retreat from the elements, so they are suitable for weddings in Spring, Autumn and Winter, as well as for Summer weddings.
If you are considering a Barn wedding here are some local venue’s you may want to look into.
Wedding Photographer at Barn Wedding Venues in Hampshire, West Sussex and Surrey
Photographing a friend’s wedding is hard; More pressure, more distraction, mischievous husbands pulling facing from the congregation. But also a privilege. No one else gets to see the day like I do. So here’s Ryan and Amy’s wedding how I saw it: moments of excitement and nerves, smiles and tears, love and laughter (and more tears).
They were married at Upwaltham Barns in Chichester, a pretty venue out in the West Sussex countryside. Amy and the girls were getting ready in the little ‘Honeymoon Cottage’ at the Barns when I joined them and Ryan soon arrived with the groomsmen and waited in the bar. Amy and Ryan both bought each other thoughtful gifts, an old pocket watch for Ryan (tears #1) and a specially made perfume for Amy. Ryan also wrote a lovely letter to each of Amy’s daughters which I thought was such a sweet touch.
The ceremony was emotional, with readings from their sisters and Amy’s daughter Katie who read a brilliant poem she had written herself. (more tears) After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a pimms or two and the rain held off for some photos around the barns before we sat down for the wedding breakfast. The speeches were funny and yes there were more tears, and after being best man for both Scott and Wayne, Ryan obviously got his due. The evening was a chance for me to chill out a bit, but I still had the camera for the dirty dancing lift, and we set up the photobooth for a bit (photos to follow)
Ryan and Amy- many congratulations, wishing you a long and happy marriage xxx
