Caitriona & Rich’s Wedding at the Longhouse, Somerset

Caitriona & Rich got married at one of my favourite wedding venues, the Eco-friendly Longhouse in Somerset. It was early April and a beautiful Spring day in the countryside. With a relaxed day planned they chose to have their portraits before the wedding ceremony and met in the garden for a romantic ‘first look’ before heading off around Bruton for some photos. Seeing each other before the wedding is a break from tradition, but by arranging a set up First Look, you can share a moment much more intimate than at the altar in front of everyone. You can then do your portraits without missing the party and spend more time with your guests during the reception. Its something I would encourage all my brides and grooms to consider and I hope these photos show what a nice idea it is.

Anyway, back to the wedding, and the morning’s non-traditional meeting did not take any of the magic away from the lovely ceremony. After the marriage everyone went out into the gardens for Pimms and canapes. During the drinks reception the happy couple stepped away from the party and took a private moment together to sip champagne. Meanwhile the room was set up for the wedding breakfast, with handmade daffodil and grass table centres and chocolate brownie wedding cake. Caitriona put loads of hard work into making things for the wedding, growing the daffs for the table centres and stringing up bright felt bunting and even knitting the bouquets and buttonholes.

Into the evening and guests danced to the Ceilidh band and when darkness fell a small group ventured into the field and released chinese lanterns which was a beautiful end to my day. Here is a selection of photos from their beautiful wedding day. Congratulations Rich & Caitriona!

Sneak Peek: Rich & Caitriona’s wedding at the Longhouse, Somerset

I spent a great day in Somerset yesterday shooting Rich & Caitriona’s Spring wedding at the Longhouse in Bruton. They chose to do a ‘first look’ where they met before the ceremony, which was pretty special, and made for a very relaxed day, having done the portraits before the wedding.  During the afternoon drinks reception the newly weds took 5 minutes away from everyone else for some champagne and a moment together. This is one of my favourite shots, ‘papped’ from behind the daffodils.

More photos, including that ‘first look’ when they are back from Honeymoon…

Somerset Wedding Photographer: Victoria & Dave’s wedding at the Longhouse, Bruton

Wedding at the Longhouse, Bruton

Wedding photography is a pretty solitary occupation, so sometimes it’s good to go and work with other photographers and see how someone else does things. I worked with David McNeil at Victoria & Dave’s colourful wedding at the Longhouse in Bruton Somerset. Set looking across the village and countryside, the venue was decorated with fantastic summer fete style details in a mix of purples, oranges and greens, with an amazing croquembouche profiterole cake, and a tiered cheese ‘cake’.

The couple chose to see each other in the morning and did a ‘first look’ before going off around Bruton for a good long portrait session before the wedding. I really love David’s contemporary fashion style portraiture, and Victoria and Dave really gave us the time to visit lots of different locations and get creative.

Then it was time for the main event. They did things a little differently, with the groom walking down the aisle on his mothers arm, then the bridesmaids and other parents, and finally Victoria and her brother. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed a selection of drinks and nibbles in the sunshine before finding their bag of sweets denoting their table number and sitting down for the meal. I just loved the way they served the main course. A carver was selected on each table and given a chefs hat and apron and a large hunk of roast beef to serve to their table. A great way to make an event during the meal. After the speeches and a few silly pics in the photobooth everyone partied into the night to the band.

Here are a selection of my shots from the day. Thanks to David and of course Victoria & Dave for having me along!

Jennifer and Adam’s Wedding at the Longhouse, Bruton

 Congratulations Mr & Mrs Devine!

I knew when I met Jenny and Adam (and the caterpillars) that this was going to be a unique and fun wedding. A ‘Green’ venue, vegetarian food, and dresses hand made by the bride, they ensured that their wedding day was special and personal to them.

Overlooking the stunning Somerset countryside, the Longhouse at the Mill-on-the-Brue was a perfect setting for the wedding on such a beautiful Spring day. After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed champagne out in the sunshine, before sitting down to a vegetarian wedding breakfast and cupcakes (homemade again)and then dancing the night away to the band. The day was chilled out and full of laughter and Jennifer and Adam seemed blissfully happy together.

Here are a few sneak previews of their photos from the day. The full gallery will be online for friends and family when the happy couple are back from honeymoon.

Many congratulations Mr & Mrs Devine!
